In Delhi, gur chana is not really a snack. It's a ritual. Old winters, old markets, old uncles with pockets full of the stuff. You don't forget that flavour.
Gur chana — roasted chickpeas with jaggery — is one of the oldest street foods of the capital. In the lanes of Chandni Chowk and the winter bazaars of Old Delhi, thelas laden with freshly roasted chana coated in liquid jaggery were as common as chai stalls. Simple. Sustaining. The kind of food that doesn't need a brand to be trusted.
Our Dilli Gur Chana is made in Delhi, the old way. Roasted chickpeas — not over-processed, with a proper tooth-to-them — coated in a jaggery glaze that gives you the sweet-earthy hit without being cloying. The chickpea holds its shape. The jaggery carries a faint smokiness. No refined sugar. Sweetened entirely with jaggery (gur). No palm oil.
Straight from the pack, any time of day. Brilliant with black tea in winter. A handful after a meal works as a digestive — jaggery has been used that way in Indian homes for centuries. Also the best desk snack in this range: low guilt, actually filling, and flavourful enough to feel like a choice rather than a habit.
Shelf life: 180 days from manufacture. Store in a cool, dry place. Humidity affects the jaggery coating.
